A better life begins with a fresh “dialectical” way of thinking about problems and life situations. It begins with observing your own experience in the world and making changes within yourself to respond effectively to the external “stuff” you cannot control. It involves increasing your capacity for problem solving and moving with and loving yourself through the emotional pain that comes with being human. A life worth living begins with accepting what life has handed you WHILE seeking to change it to make your dreams come true.
Christina Unruh, MSW, LCSW is a Behavioral therapist and an Emotion therapist. Her therapy approach is validation and skills-based and centered in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). While some therapists have only introductory training in DBT, Christina is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy ((DBT) through Behavioral Tech, LLC and Treatment Collaborative, LLC, where she received advanced training in DBT Prolonged Exposure Therapy for Trauma. Her therapeutic approach is goal-directed but also very warm and and flexible. Christina’s training, life experience and professional background enables her to conceptualize problems in the context of a person’s unique personality, family influences, experiences, and beliefs.
Christina approaches the therapy relationship from a position of genuine equality and collaboration. She is trained to problem-solve behaviors associated with depression, anxiety, bipolar, ADHD, Borderline Personality Disorder, and emotional sensitivity that can lead to these disorders or just problem behaviors. These behaviors can include: isolating from others, abandoning favorite activities, quitting jobs or dropping out of school, exploding in anger, substance abuse, self-loathing. Her expertise is helping others create a vision for their unique “life worth living” while also addressing thoughts, beliefs, and emotions that lead to loss of motivation and feeling stuck.
Christina also has both personal and professional experience working with adults living with ADHD, Autism (commonly referred to as Asbergers) and works to help these individuals work more effectively within the parameters of Neurodiversity. She also works with families impacted by Autism/Asbergers to help them shape the family dynamic and structure around the needs and health of the entire family.
